Shortly after the Oslo Peace Accords in 1993 till 2003, I took photographs in the Palestinian refugee camps of Jabalia, Khan Yunis and Deir al Balah in the Gaza Strip and portrayed young settlers attending religious classes in Newe Dekalim. The contrasts could not be greater: while everyday life on the Palestinian side was extremely difficult and painful, young occupying soldiers and settlers from Israel presented themselves proudly and confidently in front of their Jewish settlement in Gush Katif. This settlement was finally cleared and demolished in 2005.
