Image of sheet 20050080 photo 3: The Palacio de los Tribunales de Justicia de Santiago (English: Courts of Justice Palace of Santiago) is the building housing the Supreme Court of Chile Courtroom at the main court in Santiago de Chile where one of the cases against former President and Dictator is being heard. General Augusto Pinochet was indicted for human rights violations committed in his native Chile by Spanish magistrate Baltasar Garzón on 10 October 1998. He was arrested in London six days later and held for a year and a half before finally being released by the British government in March 2000

Mindestens 4.500 Menschen wurden dort gefoltert und 226 davon umgebracht. Heute befindet sich auf dem Gelände der sogenannte „Park für den Frieden“ (Parque por la Paz Villa Grimaldi), der als Gedenkstätte fungiert. Villa Grimaldi is considered the most important of DINA’s (Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional, the Chilean secret police) many complexes that were used for the interrogation and torture of political prisoners during the governance of Augusto Pinochet.
