März 2011, starteten die Mineure am längsten Eisenbahntunnel der Welt ein letztes Mal die Herrenknecht-Tunnelbohrmaschine »Heidi« (Gripper-TBM, Durchmesser 9,43 m). Nach insgesamt 25,2 km fiel um 12:20 Uhr die Felswand beim Durchbruch. Damit ist der Weg durch die Alpen durchgängig frei.
